Spray and Wipe, an exhibition that explores the notion of urban art in the post-Ikea age will open at Brightspace on 6-8pm Friday August the 5th and run until Saturday August the 20th.

In contrast to the anonymity of the city, our homes frequently reflect our individual personalities and experiences. Enter the post-Ikea age: featuring homogenised furniture stores espousing the sanctity of the domestic space….and selling you someone else’s banal taste in lampshades.

Thirteen Melbourne street artists will comment on the commercialisation of street art forms by creating their own mock furniture store, decorating their rooms using styles ranging from graffiti, stencils, paste-ups, multimedia and everything in between. This work will include the use of actual furnishings and fittings. To ensure a cohesive look to the "store" a team of designers will take on the task of ‘branding’ the show.
